Greg Nance - Movement as Medicine
Greetings from New York City. This week has been energizing! The next evolution of my coaching company is coming into focus, and I recorded two new episodes of Where the Road Bends with some incredible guests. I have more creative energy right now than I have at any time in my entire life. This is such a gift, and I’m savoring and appreciating what’s coming through me right now. I’m telling myself a story that what I’m experiencing is rare. I can’t wait to share more soon—I have no doubt it’s going to be impactful and special.
Where the Road Bends episode two is my conversation with ultra marathoner and social entrepreneur Greg Nance. He recently completed a 3,156 mile run from the Atlantic to the Pacific to raise awareness and money for youth mental health. This came on the heels of shutting down his startup, Dyad Mentorship, and overcoming addiction earlier in life.
Greg is also the founder of Run Far Foundation, a non-profit that builds after-school running clubs to enable meaningful community service and help young people find purpose, have fun, and stay healthy. He’s also one of the few humans who has completed seven marathons on seven continents in seven days. You can think of him as a combination of Forrest Gump and Scott Harrison.
We covered a lot of ground in this conversation, including:
The power of a mentor and how to find one
The road to recovery from substance abuse and a failed startup
The impact of starting where you are and committing to earn it
The importance of having an amazing team even with individual pursuits
The magic of trying again and again when you want to accomplish something big
Finally, I encourage you to check out Greg’s Instagram feed featuring dozens of pictures and videos from his run across America. It’s one of the most inspiring and incredible accounts on the platform. When you hear Greg talk, you’ll realize that anything is possible when we fully commit ourselves to our mission and vision.
Without further ado, I hope you enjoy this conversation with Greg.
💎 A Nugget of Wisdom
🤔
Here's a quote I’ve been pondering this week about change and transition. If it resonates, feel free to share it with those in your life.
Everyone is a living artist
“Regardless of whether or not we're formally making art, we are all living as artists. We perceive, filter, and collect data, then curate an experience for ourselves and others based on this information set. Whether we do this consciously or unconsciously, by the mere fact of being alive, we are active participants in the ongoing process of creation.”
